We are talking about two different things here, wthidden. You’re talking about autocomplete, which I agree is a great time-saving technology for both texting and gmail. I am talking about autoresponse, in which Gmail suggests a short word, phrase, or sentence as the entire response to a received email. Of course one has the option to use it or not use it, but the presentation of it in its current form is essentially an invitation to respond glibly, curtly, or in some other way that is very unlike human conversation.
